The comparison of left and right to good and bad was very well thought out and explained. I never realized all of the symbolism involving right and left until reading this article. I think good example of right meaning good and left meaning bad is that Mayella was injured on her right eye so she is does not have much morality. Also Atticus uses his right eye mostly to see since his left eye is so bad. This symbolizes his goodness. I wonder if Harper Lee planned out all of this symbolism or if it just happened as she wrote. This article has helped me understand and appreciate To Kill A Mockingbird even more than before.
The redemption of Atticus Finch had an interesting debate in it. I completely disagree with Crespino's views of Atticus being paternalistic. Atticus is a hero who uses his morality and wisdom to try and save a black man from injustice. He does this because he believes that it is the right thing to do, not because he wants control or is selfish. Atticus's values have influenced people all over the world. I don't see how anybody could consider him less than a hero.
